The perils of mySQL

Thursday, 11 August 2005

The problem with travelling round is not always checking on websites I've developed and maintained over the years. Some don't get much in the way of updates. Some I'm responsible, some I'm not. It's not my fault that the Cheese Times has little new content, I don't actually write it, I just 'webmaster' it.

Then there's the Def Leppard Bootleg Guide. My own little contribution to the wonderful world of music, bootlegs and my favourite band. Being in Aus has seen little addition to the site, despite the fact they've toured with Bryan Adams this year. Not good. Then yesterday I do a random check on the site, one of those things I really ought to do more often but I forget it's there.

The database had crashed. Corrupted. No site. Oooops. Luckily a search in Google found the solution to the problem - MySQL Reference Manual :: 5.8.4.9 How to Repair Tables.

Moving swiftly on and another bunch of nice spammmy comments left on here. I'm all for letting people put what they want in my comments, just not crap links to gambling sites. An added IP blocker is now in place. We'll see how that works.

Added some more photos into the Melbourne and St Kilda photo galleries.

One of those good weekends coming up. Cricket, footy, football. A mass of sport for the masses and a pub right under where I'm sleeping. What could be better?

Today's been an internet day. Massing up a few hours while it rains outside in between the sun. Lunch with my brother at a place on La Trobe St.

I admit it. I'm just waiting for 7.30 to roll along..............

I feel a great disturbance in the force

Wednesday, 10 August 2005

Actually, I feel dizzy and weak. Not sure why. I just came over all funny while walking down Elizabeth St.

Didn't look like it was going to be much of a day today. The weather's taken a turn for the worse. I did spent part of the day having a wander round taking a few photos of buildings and investigating a few streets I've yet to see. There are some great buildings around in Melbourne. Some old, some new and some that are just beautiful, much like the city's people.

Had one of those really enjoyable moments too. Those times when you bump into someone you've met previously in a different city. Had a bit of a chat and arranged to have a drink one night this week.

Anyway, there I was walking down Russell St and then up Bourke St, not having been up around there before. Noticed the Hoyts cinema was showing Revenge Of The Sith. Went in to find out when it was on and stayed to watch it for the fifth time.

Too much

Monday, 08 August 2005

Why is it that when you eat an 'all you can eat' kind of buffet meal there is a need to really go to town and eat way too much? I managed it last night at Pizza Hut for no other reason than I could. I ate way too much. I felt stuffed and wanted nothing more than to sit there for the rest of the night while my stomach settled.

In the end I went for a walk, which helped matters a little.

Not like the good old days though. Back at Uni a few of us would do the all-you-can-eat thing in Nottingham. Preparing during the day (heavy breakfast, very light dinner) and heading off, paying and then competing to see who could eat the most. I won once. I got through 17 slices (no pasta, no extras, only drinking water). That was one piece short of 3 full pizzas. I threw up after getting outside.

I made a real pavement pizza!

May well end up going back to the cinema again. Still not seen War Of The Worlds. Never been quite sure if I really wanted to see it. Looking forward to the release of Danny the Dog, Dogboy, or Unleashed, or whatever-it's-called-whereever-you-are. Always been a fan of Luc Besson's stuff though since Uni days.

Keep meaning to take the camera out at night. I was going to do it Sunday but my mood and the rain put a dampner on the idea.

And how good is Sin City?

It's funny but I've never watched a movie before that made me want to kill.
