Alexandria was first settled around 1695. The area was originally home to Captain Phillip Alexander II, he was never in favour of settling a town on such an ideal site, and the town was named Alexandria to appease both Phillip and his brother Captain John Alexander II who are now both considered founding fathers of Alexandria.
