NSW State Library and Flinders Statue

The library is also known as the Mitchell Library as, for a while, it was the only wing of the library. However, as extensions have been added over the years it has become the State Library. The statue of Matthew Flinders was the first statue of him in Australia, although Melbourne started theirs first the Sydney one was finished and erected first. Behind Flinders is a statue of his cat, Trim, a loyal cat who travelled as ship's cat with Flinders. Trim had been born at sea and survived falling overboard though he disappeared 6 years later when Flinders was in prison.
