100 Years Of Management The natural beauty of this place has attracted Melbourne people since the 1860s. Local concern for the protection of the fern gullies led to the reservation of the 412 acres (167ha) for public recreation on 14 March 1882. A Committee of Management to care for the reserve was appointed on 5 May 1882. The reserve later became a national park and has been more than doubled in size. Fern Tree Gully National Park is still an area of great natural beauty - a tribute to the vision of those who have worked for it, and a valuable asset for future generations.
Unveiled by the Hon. Evan Walker, MLC, Minister for Conservation on 5 May 1982.
