Boxing Day begins. No cricket yet though thanks to a spot of rain in Melbourne.

It occurred to me quite why I don't particularly found Christmas Day that exciting for another year. I can't really remember the last time I thoroughly enjoyed a Christmas. In recent years some have been a little different.

There's no great surprise to it anymore. The day begins and ends and in the middle there is turkey and presents. The presents themselves provide no great excitement anymore, everything's either what had been requested or some choices that provide more curiosity and the question "Why?" springs to mind.

What Christimas Day needs is something different, a surprise of some kind similar to that feeling of fun and excitement akin to finding an old friend on Abby Winters!

Still, at least this year I've managed to go for the whole day without watching any TV. I would have watched Dr Who but couldn't quite bring myself to watch anything with Catherine Tate in it. It will, no doubt, be repeated ad nauseum between now and the time for the start of the next series anyway.
