It feels a bit weird sometimes being back in England. I've lived in this country all my life but having been away in both the USA, last year, and spending 9 months in Australia my whole perspective of England has altered. Of the three countries there's many similarities, language being one, but it's all the little differences. The nature of how people react in situations. One thing that's highlighted is alcohol. I'm still of the belief that the English have this "thing" about alcohol and drinking habits. Australians just drink for some pleasure, good company and enjoyment. In England the country is currently up in arms over the concept of changing licensing laws. There's the binge drinking idea. Pubs shut too early here. Too many people drink too much and trouble often ensues when everyone's thrown out into the streets. Sport shows the other differences in the cultures. Australians are big on sport. Americans have their own set and often seem indifferent to international competition, concentrating on their four major sports. The English rely solely on football and rugby with other sports being of interest if we're doing well in them on an international stage. Although, at this point in time, the USA is higher in the FIFA rankings than England. Australia have just qualified for their first World Cup since 1974, although the reasons for that are perhaps more due to their recently lifted curse. Not that football is big in Aus. It ranks somewhere below swimming and netball in popularity. Comment on this article
