I woke up this morning feeling energised, ready to face anything this weekend has to throw at me. I was up at 7am, shaved, showered and ready to face the day. As happens in Australia though, it wasn't ready for me. Nearly everywhere was shut.

For the past couple of days I've been plotting, planning and figuring out what to do next. A morning walk on the beach and everything is becoming clear. Originally I was going to go up the east coast, as far as possible, before heading west to check out the top half of NT, then back down the coast line of WA to Perth before returning to Melbourne. One minor problem has presented itself though.

I'm slowly missing the AFL season.

As a result I'm going to be going only as far as Airlie for a sailing trip around the Whitsunday Islands before heading back south for the back end of the AFL season. The one big reason for this is that I have a St Kilda membership, with a few games to go to that are already paid for. Add to that my brother and sister-in-law are moving next week and I want to see their new home and catch up with a few old friends in my favourite Australian city.

I also started writing a letter this morning. It seems strange in this day and age, with emails, SMS and every other modern form of communication to be phsically hand writing a letter. However, one friend I left behind in Sydney gave me her address so the only way I can currently keep in touch with her is by letter. I haven't written a letter for just over a year. The last one went to my ex-girlfriend, written as it was at thirty-something-thousand feet in the air on my return from Aus.
