Byron. Lovely place. Small town. Not much to it. Good beaches. Good weather. Terrible hostel. Having got here Friday night I was somewhat tired and in no mood to do anything. The bus ride had taken 11 hours. Several stops along the way. I probably drank around 3 bottles of water, surveyed the scenery as it passed by, finished reading The Lord Of The Flies and listened to a lot of music far too loudly (and playing air piano along with November Rain and Estranged as I frequently do). Also got a couple of movies this time around. What could be classed as chick flicks but I sort of like How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days. Maybe that's just because I like Kate Hudson though. I ended up renting the movie last year on advice and since the advice had been good in the past I watched it. The other movie we go, Chasing Liberty, was a little on the dire side. Saturday morning and I had a walk around. There's not too much to Byron, a lot of cafe's, surfer stores, the usual mix of hotel/motel/hostels and travel places. The beach is a mere stones throw from the hostel which is a good thing. I spent the afternoon there, reading, watching the world go by and surveying the scenery. Then there's the hostel itself. Nomad's Main Beach Backpackers. A dirty place. There's a ring of scum on one toilet seat. The bathroom was mopped this morning. Not cleaned, the dirt was moved around a bit. When I arrived I was given a pillow case and bottom sheet. It seems that this place has no quarms about the use of sleeping bags, something which I've been led to believe is illegal in NSW. The people are fun though. Just about all surfers (which comes as no surprise). There's work to be done this week, mixed with enjoying Byron and planning the Fraser Island/Whitsunday trips in the coming weeks. I was hoping to get my Newcastle photos online. Just need an internet cafe that has USB ports on it's machines! Now time to catch up on the other blogs I have a tendency to read, which looks like it's going to take a while............
