Having been staying in Sydney for a while now and thoroughly enjoying it (although it isn't as good as Melbourne) I've learnt a few things about the female workforce of the area, ie the strip clubs.

There's 2 kinds here. Those with sex licenses and those with alcohol licenses. It's a choice. One or the other but never both. Since I've been staying in Kings Cross, home of several places. Porky's, Striperama and The World Famous Love Machine are the places for sex. Showgirls and Centerfolds (formely Playbirds) are there for the alcohol.  Love Machine is famed for guys getting ripped off as the prostitutes working there tend to start with low prices but once a guy is upstairs additional costs soon follow.

Those with sex licenses are fairly simple. They're basically brothels with some music and a bunch of girls who strip during the night. It should be said though that as the night goes on the stripping gets better and the odd bloke gets dragged on stage for a bit of sex. The prostitutes working there can stand on the street, attract guys, bring them in and do what they pay for. Additional points are that these places are BYO and nearly all the prostitutes are heroin addicts.

The alcohol licensed places are more simple but there's more chance to get ripped off. They have strippers for public consumption and the chance for a private dance. The fun really starts with the drinks and those serving them. The clubs set a price. The girls serving the drinks can hike the prices up as much as they want to, depending on how drunk the buyer is. Customers can also hire the girls as escorts for the night. This is usually done under the assumption that sex will be involved later on. More often than not it isn't and phone calls to credit card companies are then made the next day only for the card's owner to become extremely agito since he legitimately signed for something.

Other brothels do exist in the area. Though they never seem to be open and generally have a slightly more upmarket clientele (and cheaper prices curiously enough). Orwell St has it's own Asian brothel, entry is only for the extremely rich Asians though.
